GWERU-Twenty three newly elected Gweru City councilors were officially sworn-in at a ceremony held at Town House this afternoon.
Acting Town Clerk Livingston Churu presided over the ceremony with the help of the Gweru District Development Coordinator Tarisai Mudadigwa.
The ceremony was witnessed by residents and families of the incoming councilors.
Of the eighteen councilors who were duly elected under the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), three are youths, while William Mazango (30) of ward 18 being the youngest.
Chuma Faith, Choto Lovemore, Paradza Admire and Chakauya Olivia are former council employees.
The other five councilors got into council through women’s quota system, with 4 from CCC and one from ZANUPF.
The women quota seats were allocated on a proportional basis with the party winning more wards getting more seats.
Gweru has increased the number of women councillors from one in the previous council to nine.
Four women councilors were directly elected from their respective wards while five joined council through the quota system.
Tadious Chimombe of ward 12, Kumbirai Rutsvara ward 11, Martin Chivhoko of ward 4 and Danny Ndava of ward 14 are returning councilors who save in 2009 and 2018 respectively.
