GWERU- Gweru City Council workers have with effect from 31 January 2024 declared incapacitation citing poor renumeration and working conditions

In a letter in possession of The Midweek Watch today, workers have withdrawn their services pending finalisation of their issues.

“After several works council meetings and request for meetings which we have not brought any tangible results in terms of salary adjustments for your employees who continue to wallow in extreme economic challenges to the extent of failing to afford basics such as food, rent and transport we have resorted to consented action.

” We therefore notify you that your employees are now with immediate effect incapacitated to provide the usual services” read part of the letter.

Sometime last year (2023) between August and October, GCC workers raised alarm over wage increases, as they blamed council for splashing huge sums of money on service and management vehicles.

However, Gweru Acting Town Clerk, Livingstone Churu, couldn’t be reached for a comment on the matter by the time of publishing the story.
