Gweru businessman loses US$12k to armed robbers

Gweru-Armed robbers pounced on a Gweru businessman (32) and made away with US$11 900 at his Tatenda Park on June 7, 2023.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko is appealing for information regarding whereabouts of the suspects.

“We are appealing to members of the public who might have information leading to the arrest of the suspects to visit any nearest police station,” said Mahoko.

The complainant (name witheld on request) was at home with his family when he heard a car hooting at the gate. He took his CZ pistol and proceeded to the gate and found a Mark X motor vehicle parked in front of his gate.

The driver asked for directions to a Mr Moyo’s place of residence where he said he intended to attend a funeral.

The complainant responded that he did not know Mr Moyo and went back into his yard.

Suddenly 8 unknown male adults jumped over the perimeter wall into his yard wearing face masks with one of them with a pistol.

They demanded cash from the businessman and took his CZ pistol.

They went on to search him and took two cellphones and threatened to shoot him. The robbers, force-marched him into the house where they ransacked and took US$11 900-00 cash from the bedroom.

The intruders deflated four tyres of the complainant`s parked motor vehicle and drove away in their getaway car.

 Gweru Central Police Station officers attended the scene and recovered the stolen two cell phones outside the perimeter wall.
