In a public notice from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development in possession of The Midweek Watch, it will strictly enforce axle load regulations on all major highways across Zimbabwe, with immediate effect.
This move comes as part of efforts to preserve the country’s road infrastructure following significant national investments such as the ongoing Bulawayo-Victoria Falls Road rehabilitation and upgrading project.
The Ministry said the enforcement is aimed at promoting economic growth, public safety and tourism development.
The statement emphasizes zero tolerance for overloaded vehicles.
“Trucks found breaching load limits on any major road, especially the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls corridor, will be hit with heavy fines and penalties in line with national laws,” reads part of the notice.
The enforcement applies nationwide with the Ministry confirming that weighbridges and regular checkpoints will be operational to monitor compliance.
The public notice highlights that overloading damages roads, causes potholes, structural failure and leads to increased repair costs and safety hazards for all road users.
The Ministry urged transport operators to adhere to the law, calling on all citizens to join hands in protecting national infrastructure under the campaign theme, “KilometerByKilometer.”
