GOKWE- The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has approved ZWG 275 340 087.43 annual budget for Gokwe Town Council.

Acting Gokwe Town Secretary Alexander Nyandoro.

The budget has decreased from the previous ZWG 283 284 819.09 due to trends in disbursements of government grants.

The local authority’s Acting Finance Director Onwards Bokisi confirmed the development.

“I am glad to announce to the public that the Minister of Local Government and Public Works has approved our 2026 budget. We are grateful that the budget was approved on time and this development gives us enough time to put capital projects into motion, ” he said.

He said ZWG 103 190 578 was allocated as devolution funds however, no disbursements were received.

“The approved budget will focus on improving governance and administration, water sanitation and hygiene, social services, roads, public safety and security and natural resources conservation.

“We intend to construct market sheds as our town is full of vendors longing to have decent places to sell their products.

“We are also intending to construct storm water drains, roads, community hall renovations, refuse equipment procurement to increase the frequency of refuse collection.

“The budget will also cater for the construction of a toilet block at Mapfungautsi Extension at a new site for school construction among other things,” he said.

During previous years, the local authority suffered late budget approvals, a development which has hindered its service delivery mandate.
