CHIPINGE-Samuel Mandava (73) from Ndunduma Village under Chief Musikavanhu in Chipinge hung himself on a mopani tree using palm tree fibres after his relatives accused him of being a witch.
The incident happened on March 22 at around 4pm, Manicaland Province ZRP acting spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch.
Chinyoka said on Sunday, Samuel with his relatives who were accusing him of bewitching them went to Mutorwa Villagehead’s community court for ritual consultations.
At around 3pm they returned and Samuel told his wife, Esther Mandava (66) that he was going to the fields for some chores.
After an hour Esther followed her husband and met Lloyd Makwenya, a neighbor who informed the former that he had seen Samuel and showed her the direction he had taken.
Lloyd discovered Samuel’s body hanging from a mopani tree 535m from his homestead and a report was made to Chibuwe police station.
The police took the body to Birchenough Hospital mortuary for a post mortem.
