An elderly man from Kupuka Village under Chief Mazungunye in Bikita tragically drowned on 15 July 2025 while fetching firewood alone near Mujiche River.
The deceased, Murindiwa Peter Zivanai (72), reportedly left his homestead around 8 AM, leaving behind his wife, Senzeni Rizive (64). According to family sources, he had gone to collect firewood by the river.
At approximately 2 PM, a fellow villager passing through the Mujiche River spillway discovered Zivanai’s body floating in the water, with a bundle of firewood nearby.
Eyewitnesses noted bruises on his palms and slippery marks near the riverbank, suggesting that he may have struggled to save himself after slipping into the water.
The body was retrieved and transported to Silveira Mission Hospital mortuary, where it is currently awaiting post-mortem examination.
