GWERU-The Government is taking over most duties of local authorities as they are failing to deliver services to the residents, Vice President Rtd Gen Constantino Chiwenga has said.
Chiwenga cited the deteriorating condition of roads, schools, and public facilities which have reached alarming levels as reasons for the Government’s intervention.
Government is determined to address the situation made worse by the Citizens Coalition for Change run councils, Chiwenga told the gathering at a rally in Gweru, Mkoba.
“The infrastructure in towns is deteriorating because the CCC council is failing to maintain sewer pipes and water pipes which was put by whites. Roads remained riddled with potholes, schools are in dire need of repairs, ” Chiwenga said.
Chiwenga said he has taken note of the residents’ concerns He listened to the concerns of the residents and assured them that their well-being was a top priority. Through town hall meetings and open dialogues, he communicated the government’s dedication to restoring the infrastructure to its former glory. Under the guidance of the task force, construction crews were mobilized to repair roads, bridges, and public buildings. Schools were renovated, hospitals received necessary upgrades, and recreational areas were rejuvenated.
“The council is failing if you see the roads potholes are now too much if the rains start, they turn to be swimming pools, hence we took over the fixing the roads in locations taking over the failing council’s duties for example the Mkoba Teacher’s College Road is now being fixed by the Government,” Vice President said.
