CHIKOMBA—Good Hope Junior School Taekwondo Club student Jamiel Tigere (11) shone at a recent Teakwondo Tournament which was held in Manzini, Eswatini last week when he won a silver medal at a highly contested tournament.
Good Hope Taekwondo Club is housed at MuvSports Taekwondo Club and both clubs are trained by Gift Muvuti.
Thirteen countries attended the tournament namely; Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda and the United Kingdom with 525 athletes battling it out in different categories.
Good Hope Junior School Taekwondo Club had three students who showcased their talent at the tournament namely; Jamiel Tigere who won a silver medal in the under 32 kg category, Constance Nhliziyo and Amanda Nyathi while Tarirai Normally Masunganye represented MuvSports in the heavyweight cadet category.
Good Hope Junior School head, Kudakwashe Nyani, congratulated all Good Hope students who participated at the tournament and promised to support them through and through.
“I would like to congratulate all Good Hope Junior Taekwondo students who participated in Manzini, Eswatini, they did the school, district, province and country proud.
“I am also happy that one of our students Tigere brought a silver medal which has become a motivational factor to the generality of the learners. Thumbs-up to him. The school will forever continue to support the team,” said Nyani.
In an interview with The Midweek Watch Givemore Muvuti (43), who is the founder of MuvSports Club and trains both clubs, said he was excited by the performance of his students at the tournament.
“I am happy with the performance of my team, getting a silver medal at this level of the game was not easy. We learned a lot from this tournament. We hope to find assistance of generation 2 equipment which is being used at international games,” said Muvuti.
