Gokwe-A two-year-old child from Magondo Village under Chief Mkoka in Gokwe has drowned in a well near the homestead, Police has confirmed.

The incident occurred on Saturday last week, the Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko told The Midweek Watch and went on to urge parents and guardians to jealously check on the whereabouts of their children especially during the rainy season when most water bodies are always full.

“We urge members of the public to desist from leaving children and the vulnerable unattended to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.” Said mahoko.

Circumstances are that the father, Takura Dombo (28) of Village Magondo under Chief Mkoka in Gokwe and his (name not given) wife went to their field at around 5am.

They left their three children aged 5, 4 and 2 (names and sex not revealed) playing at their homestead.

At about 10am as Dombo’s wife was on her way back home to feed the children, she met her two of them on their way to the fields and they informed her that the two year old sibling had fallen into the well at home.

The body of the deceased was retrieved from the well by villagers and a report was made at Gokwe police station. Meanwhile, Investigations are still in progress to find out the actual circumstances of the incident.
