MASVINGO-Joanas Chivandire (54) died on Monday on his way to Gokomere Mission from Masvingo City in a suspected hit and run case 10km from the ancient city along Harare Road.
The incident was confirmed by Masvingo Province Police acting spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Patinyu Masauso.
The body of the deceased was seen on Monday morning lying on the roadside, with postures indicating that he might have been hit by a car.
A passerby immediately informed the Police and the body of Chivandire was taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital mortuary.
Villagers who talked to The Midweek Watch said the deceased resided in Harare with his family and was a frequent visitor at Gokomere where his relatives live.
The Midweek Watch gathered that the deceased was into selling traditional wares like traditional winnowing baskets and garden chairs a in Masvingo city and after selling his wares he would go back to Harare.
Masauso said investigations are in progress to apprehend the culprit and urged motorists to adhere to road traffic rules and regulations when involved in accidents.
“Anyone involved in an accident must report it to the Police within 24hours, moreover motorists must stop and assist victims by rendering first aid or referring them to hospital.
“Investigations are under way and if anyone has information that can lead us to the accused, must report to a nearest Police Station.”
