GWERU-Zanu PF second secretary and Vice President, Retired General Constantino Chiwenga said Gweru should resoundingly vote for the ruling party as the Midlands capital is iconic in the formation of the revolutionary party.
He said citizens should not condone political violence, adding that the Second Republic has been working hard to create an enabling environment for all Zimbabweans to succeed in their economic endeavors.
Chiwenga was speaking at a campaign rally in Mkoba Stadium where scores of ruling party supporters braved the chilly weather to grace the occasion.
“As we are heading for our elections, let’s emulate the President’s call for peace. Gweru is special in the history of the country and sacred.
“It is where most of our national heroes such as Josiah Tongogara, Cephas Msipa and Richard Hove among others come from. This is the city where the first Zanu congress was held in 1964.
“You, the people of Mkoba and the country at large, must therefore vote resoundingly for President Mnangagwa and the revolutionary party so that the Second Republic can go ahead with its promise to grow the economy in line with Vision 2030,” said Chiwenga.
The Retired General said the US$1,5 billion Dinson Iron and Steel Company (DISCO) Manhize plant is one of the high- impact development initiatives spearheaded by the Second Republic that will transform the Midlands Province into a massive industrial hub.
“We are here in the Midlands Province today, the province that is turning out to be the country’s industrial hub under the Second Republic,” added Chiwenga amid applause from Zanu PF supporters who braved the cold weather.
He added that Zanu-PF leadership is committed to changing people’s lives as envisaged in the National Development Strategy (NDS1) blue print.
Zanu PF candidates for Mkoba North and Mkoba South constituencies William Gondo and Wellington Magura will square off against the opposition candidates from Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T).
While it’s Gweru Urban candidate Alex Mukwembi will be contesting against the incumbent Member of Parliament from MDC-T Brian Dube and CCC candidate Josiah Makombe.
