MIDLANDS—Police have launched a manhunt for suspects involved in the murder of two men from Lower Gweru and Mberengwa on Sunday.

In the first case, a funeral gathering in Mantiya Village under Chief Bunina turned deadly when a beer fuelled dispute ended with a 52-year-old man being fatally struck with a stone.

Acting Midlands Province police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Xolani Dube said the deceased, Richard Sibanda, was drinking with Tinotenda Madanhire and Jameson Magigwana around 10am on December 7 when an argument broke out.

Madanhire allegedly picked up a stone and struck Sibanda on the head before repeatedly crushing his skull as he lay on the ground.

Sibanda died on the spot while both suspects fled the scene and are still at large.

Sibanda’s body was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.

Later the same day in Mberengwa, Anele Moyo of Munyamani Village was stabbed to death during a separate altercation at Bvute Business Centre.

Dube said Moyo exchanged blows with Perfect Bhidhi before Perfect’s elder brother, Patrick Bhidhi, intervened.

Patrick allegedly tripped Moyo, drew a knife and stabbed him several times.

A well-wisher rushed Moyo to Mberengwa Hospital, where he died upon admission.

The Bhidhi brothers also fled the scene.

Dube appealed for public assistance in locating the suspects.

“We are urging communities to respect the sanctity of life,” he said.
