The FunCargo’s driver Solace Chibutse who hit Phillip was remorseful and said the deceased did not check the road carefully before crossing.
“The deceased was walking towards us with his friend and it looked like they were quarrelling with the other person who was across the road as he appeared to be drunk by the way he was walking.
“Upon approaching the two men, the deceased suddenly jumped onto my car and there was no time to stop the car. I admit I am the one who was driving. I am equally disturbed by what happened. I pray the family will understand that I was not negligent,” said Chibutse.
The circumstances are that on March 5 at around 4pm, Chibutse had two passengers on board and was heading towards Mazare Shops along Masvingo-Mutare Road when at he hit the deceased.
He sustained head injuries and a fractured left arm and his body was taken to Masvingo Provincial Hospital for postmortem.
