MASVINGO CITY-Residents of Aphiri area in Mucheke Suburb, Masvingo City are wondering as to what has befallen them after having witnessed two separate heart rending funerals in less than an hour of each and in adjacent streets, Nyadzonia Street and Mazhambe Street.

Yesterday 13 year old grade 7 school drop out Tatenda Kazembe of Nyadzonia Street died around 5pm at Masvingo Provincial Hospital of suspected suicide after drinking a rate tablet and just an hour later Phineas Mupambwa, a police officer based at Masvingo Central was allegedly struck by a Francis Aphiri Primary School bus at Gokomere and died on the spot.

Efforts to get an official comment form ZRP national spokesperson at around 10pm, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi were fruitless as his mobile phone was switched off.

According to mourners at the funeral wake who spoke to this reporter last night, Mupambwa believed to in his early thirties had gone to Gokomere to pay some money for beef purchased by team that he led (popularly known as beef committee).

At around 6pm as he was coming back from paying the money he was runover by a Francis Aphiri Primary School bus which is believed to have been coming from a private hire trip.

The funeral is being held at his in laws place of residence although he used to stay in Mucheke F with his wife and two children.

Some relatives who were at the funeral said Mupambwa is likely to be buried in Buhera where he comes from or in Harare where he grew up.
