ZVISHAVANE – South Africa has been a rich hunting ground for Zimbabwean players with the likes of Khama Billiat, Willard Katsande, Knowledge Musona, Washington Arubi among others having blossomed in the well funded Super Disk league.

This is the same dream that rising star 22 year old Kelvin Mutengo aims to achieve or even surpass.
Kelvin sees himself rubbing shoulders with some of the best on the continent and donning the jersey of one of the most supported team in South Africa, Orlando Pirates FC.
Orlando Pirates is one of the greatest clubs in South Africa having nurtured stars like Benny McCarthy, currently Patrick Maswanganyi, Thalente Mbatha and Relelobile Mofokeng being some of the stars at the club.
Kelvin is currently playing for Ngezi Platinum Stars U19 which plies its trade in the competitive ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League.

The right footed defensive and attacking midfielder is a fan of black and white as he also wishes to one day put on the Highlanders jersey before heading to pursue his South African dream.
Kelvin lives in Mutare with his parents in a family of four, 2 boys and 2 girls and he is the second born.
He did his primary education at St Joseph’s Primary School in Mutare and later on got a scholarship due to his dribbling skills at Mutambara High boarding for his form 1 and 2.
From there he got another scholarship at Prince Edward school after being spotted at Mai Hondo tournament whilst playing for La Sakubva owned by Coach Sicho in Mutare.
In that tournament Kelvin played a blinder leaving the coaches with no option than to name him the player of the tournament which resulted in him being snatched by schools soccer powerhouse Prince Edward from Harare.
His soccer career began at the age of 5 in the dusty streets of Chikanga.
His father Archford Mutengo inspired him to be a soccer player through the way as he used to take him to local games especially at the home of soccer in Mutare, Sakubva Stadium.
“I noticed that the boy is talented and I personally made sure that he pursues his dream by providing te necessary equipment and right environment for his talent to get noticed,” said Mutengo aka Foromani.
Foromani would buy him practicing and playing kits as a way of supporting his dream after discovering that his future was rooted in soccer.
Speaking to The Midweek Watch Kelvin said he wishes to play soccer outside Zimbabwe with Orlando Pirates his childhood dream team.
“l expect to be playing outside the country especially in South Africa since my favourite team is Orlando Pirates and I will do whatever it takes to be where I want to be. I do play for Ngezi Platinum Stars U19. I have been at the team for 5 years now and I’m now ready to play for the PSL teams especially Highlanders since my father is a big fan of the team,” he said.
