GUTU-New kid on educational block, Focus Tutorial College, located at Maungwa Business Centre in Gutu South with a thrust on youth empowerment has opened its doors for the first intake.
The new training centre aims to equip youths with technological skills in Masvingo Province and beyond begins with an initial enrolment of 50 learners.
The college’s principal, Antony Madzvamuse (pictured below), told The Midweek Watch that the practical skills institution is designed to bridge the gap between academically gifted and struggling students, while fostering entrepreneurship and innovation.
“Our goal is to empower our youths with skills that will make them self-reliant and contributors to the economy, we want to occupy our youths in meaningful activities, reducing the likelihood of them engaging in crime and substance abuse,” said Madzvamuse.
The college is offering a range of courses, including Clothing Technology, Computers, Welding, Cosmetology, and Tiling, with an expected enrollment of 50 students.
The principal confirmed that the college is registered with Gutu Rural District Council and is awaiting registration under the Ministry of Youth, Empowerment Development and Vocational Training.
“We believe that by equipping our youths with these skills, we can contribute to the attainment of Vision 2030 and drive economic growth, our focus is on creating entrepreneurs, innovators, and job creators, rather than job seekers,” Madzvamuse added.
The college boasts of a big hall where all the students will be housed for training and they are planning to construct hostels for students so that they stay at the institution.
They have also acquired most of the equipment required for learning at the new institution and the tutors they have hired have vast experience in their respective areas.
The college’s establishment is seen as a positive step towards addressing the challenges faced by Zimbabwe’s youth, including unemployment and lack of skills. By providing a supportive learning environment, FOCUS TUTORIAL COLLEGE is poised to make a meaningful impact on the youths and community at large.
