MWENEZI-First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa’s Gastronomy District Competitions set sail in Mwenezi at Rutenga Primary School last Friday (7th of March).

The contestants were drawn from the three constituencies that is Mwenezi North, Mwenezi West and East with contestants displaying their rich traditional dishes. The First Lady Cookout Competitions which were started with mixed feelings has now been embraced by all and sundry as this event and competitions have been distanced from partisan grounds to an inclusive competition.
The First Lady’s cookout competitions participation gudelines resonates with the President’s mantra that no place and no one is to be left behind. The participants included men, people living with disabilities, women, the youth and cooks from the chieftaincy.
Members of Parliament for these constituencies donated prices to all contestants thanking them for being part and parcel of such a great event. With the rise of many ailments that have caused headaches for the medical fraternity, it is high time that locals embrace indigenous dishes for the betterment of their health.

Master Makope of Mwenezi North Constituency in his vote of thanks said, ‘I am so grateful to the First Lady for such an initiative that has brought together the people of Mwenezi and has also cultivated a spirit of unity.’
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues Makope also added that, ‘As Mwenezi district legislators we will take it upon ourselves to take these competitions to ward level as an appreciation of such ingenuity by the mother of the nation,”.
The overall winner was Enita Moyo from Mwenezi East and the runner up was Angeline Zvikwete from Mwenezi North and the Sipepisiwe Masuku from Mwenezi West. Priscilla Moyo Zindari of Mwenezi West was also present clad in her beautiful blue national dress attire.
It was a beautiful atmosphere altogether. Sheila Chikomo of Mwenezi East sent an apology but her administrator filled her boots running around and ensuring the contestants from the constituency had everything in place.
The overall winner walked away with a gas stove and a set of cups and plates. Everyone who participated also got a set of cups and plates. This was quite motivational and left the contestants smiling all the way as Gastronomy should be a daily norm. Vision 2030 can only be achieved with a healthy workforce.
