Exercise caution during Easter Holiday-Police

MASVINGOZimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged members of the public to be on high alert during the long Easter Holiday which are characterized by travelling and merry making.

“As the nation commemorates the Easter Holiday, ZRP has intensified its operations against all forms of road traffic breaches and criminal activities especially those that affect the economic and social wellbeing of the country such as drug and substance abuse, murder, robbery and rape”, said ZRP national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

Ass Com Nyathi went to urge motorists to be considerate on the roads and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving conduct especially overtaking in situations which are not safe should be avoided at all costs.

“Motorists are being advised not to exceed the loading capacity of vehicles when carrying goods and passengers to avoid being fined and they are being asked to cooperate with police officers when stopped at road blocks.

“Unworthy and all defective vehicles are going to be impounded in order to safeguard lives and the public are urged to board public transport and avoid ‘mushikashika’ or unregistered vehicles to avoid being mugged.

“Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and Vehicle Examination Department (VED) will be working closely with ZRP to ensure that the holidays are accident free through awareness campaigns and blitz on errant motorists.

“Parents and guardians are being advised to monitor closely the movement of their children and ensure that the children, especially the girl child are left in custody of mature and responsible people if they are not travelling with them and for those travelling they must ensure that their properties are secure enough to avoid robberies during the holiday.
