MASVINGO- Two senior police officers stationed at Masvingo central police station are in the eye of a storm for allegedly detaining a Mucheke man together with his sick 10 year old daughter over a parking space dispute.
Mashingaidze Mahachi has since written a letter of complaint addressed to ZRP, Commissioner General, Godwin Matanga over the conduct of one Superintended Mawoni for inhumanly treating him and his daughter on 3 February this year.
Mahachi further alleges that the senior cop denigrated President Mnangagwa.
In a letter to Matanga in the possession of The Midweek Watch dated February 29 Mahachi indicated that Supt Mawoni took advantage of his office as a serving senior police officer and detained the complainant who was in the company of his 10 year old daughter.
Mahachi said he is an ex member of the police service and said he was detained for more than three hours together with his minor daughter thereby wantonly trampling on child’s rights as outlined in Section 81 of the Constitution.
“On the 3RD of February 2024 while I was gladly discharging my parental obligations I took my 10 year old daughter to Zimuto Police Camp Clinic who was not feeling well for medical attention where I was referred to PSMI Masvingo Urban for further management by the doctors.
“While I waited for an opening for a parking lot to park my Corolla vehicle in Masvingo CBD a Ford Ranger driven by Supt Mawoni who was on board together with members of District Reaction Group emerged from the opposite direction and blocked my way,”
“He instructed his juniors to get in my car at the same time I was disembarking my car to inquire what was happening.
“The Supt did not bother to honor my inquiries but continued to bark directives to his juniors.
“I then observed my daughter being dragged from the front seat like a terrorist and placed in the back seat on top of broiler feed packs, which I had bought”
“In terror she started crying loudly seeking my help but she was repeatedly silenced by a female officer who had menacingly invaded the back seat of my car.
“My heart bled and sunk at the thought that my daughter was sick but Supt Mawoni was authoring all these atrocities on her,”
“The said Supt then ordered my detention together with my child irrespective of my pleas that someone comes and pick her and be placed in a befitting and conducive environment as a child,” reads part of Mahachi’s letter to Matanga.
Mahachi further said he was affected by the scenario and tried to contact Propol and Dispol to explain his situation but was assisted by one Supt Charumbira who even backlashed him in vernacular and went on to curse the President.
“I watched helplessly as the best interest of my child was being trampled upon. I even tried to explain to him (Supt Charumbira) that I am an ex- detective making ends meet from the government pension scheme of President Mnangagwa with intention to make him realise that I was not a man of means if he expected anything from me.
“But he was in inferno of rage and he went ballistic into anger and started to spit demeaning venom against the President, his government and the ruling party, ‘Munhu iyeye President wako Mnangagwa is not mine it’s your own President iwee havana kana basa vari kutonditadzisa kuita basa nekusapa mari yekuenda kupension yakanaka , dai anga achiri Mugabe munhu kwaye ndakatosiya’,” wrote Mahachi.
Mahachi said he was arrested without charge and indicated that his daughter’s health further deteriorated such that she ended up being operated at Morgenster Hospital after the maltreatment she received at the hands of the senior cops.
