MUTARE-Veteran controversial musician, Hosiah Chipanga, says Zimbabwe must not hold elections and urged political parties to convene a round table meeting to fix the dying economy for the benefit of the people they purport to lead.
Chipanga who once contested for political office said political parties must use the resources that they splash around campaigning and to conduct elections and use them to benefit the majority of Zimbabweans who are wallowing in poverty.
The controversial Kwachu Kwachu hit maker said Zimbabwe is in an economic crisis which requires leaders to put their heads together and pull in one direction.
“Our nation is in a crisis which needs urgent attention. With the sorry state of our economy, I think it’s wise that our political leaders have a round table and discuss. They must sit down and map the way forward.
“As a nation we are facing so many challenges. The leaders must sit down and advice each other and see how they can fix the challenges we are facing.
“It’s better to do discuss among themselves than rushing into elections. It’s not wise to be concerned about those positions when the country is burning.
“Elections drain the nation’s resources. They will be pumping out a lot of resources which can be channeled to better use. It’s not wise to waste a lot of resources on elections while the general public is suffering. It’s only adding salt to injury at the moment to the majority,” he said.
Asked whether he will vote, Chipanga said he is left without any choice.
“I no longer have a choice. I have to dance to the tune. We will just follow suit,” he said.
Asked whether there is political violence in ward 18 Dangamvura where he stays, the multi award winning artists said at the moment there is peace.
“For now it’s quiet in our ward. Violence will start when there are doing door to door campaigns. A lot will be happening including those who will be tearing other candidates’ posters,” he said.
