MILLICENT HUNGWE
A total of 30 golfers teed off with purpose on 3 October in an inaugural charity golf tournament hosted by Edith Care and Therapy (ECT), raising vital funds towards early cancer treatment initiatives.

The event, which took place under clear skies and a spirit of solidarity, was a resounding success.
Events management specialist Rudo Shoko aka Lulu emerged as the tournament champion with an impressive 42 points, she was followed by Vice Captain Joseph Zawaira with 37 points.
According to ECT Founder and Director Tinashe Chatikobo, the turnout and support surpassed expectations, especially for a first time event.
“The response from both participants and supporters was incredibly encouraging. It’s given us confidence to make this an annual event,” said Chatikobo.
“Funds raised will go directly towards the construction of a dedicated cancer center, a much-needed resource aimed at supporting cancer patients, survivors, and their families.
“The center will focus not just on treatment but also on providing emotional and financial support for affected individuals in the community.
“This is not just a building project, it’s a symbol of hope and empowerment,” Tinashe added.
“It will be a place of care for those battling cancer and a pillar of support for their loved ones.”
Speaking with the winner Lulu, she said, “As a beginner I have become obsessed with golf. But with this tournament I felt touched as a cervical cancer survivor myself, so I had to participate and I am grateful i came first.

“It felt wonderful to contribute towards the cancer awareness movement through Golf, l am grateful for my golf partners on that particular day and also Masvingo Golf Club for the lovely course.
“I really hope and pray we give back enough until the cancer center is built in Nemamwa.”
The golf tournament forms part of ECT’s broader fundraising strategy, which also includes a second fundraising dinner scheduled for December.
Chatikobo said details on the date and venue will be announced soon.
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who took part saying, “From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Whether you played, donated, or helped spread the word you made a difference.”
Edith Care and Therapy continues to welcome support from individuals, corporates, and organizations as it works towards a future where cancer support is within reach for every Zimbabwean.
