MASVINGO-Two prominent lawyers who all operate from Edison Zvobgo Street in Masvingo City are fighting for the right to represent Citizens Coalition for Change in the forthcoming harmonized elections slated for July or August this year.
Advocate Martin Mureri of Matutu and Mureri Legal Practitioners and Masvingo City Mayor, Advocate Collen Maboke of Ruvengo, Maboke Legal Practitioners managed to sail past the first stage of nominations as they all garnered seven nominations which constitute Masvingo Urban wards.
One of the two will get the right to represent CCC if confirmed by a team of elders which will do the final selection of candidates in Harare on a date to be advised.
The nominations were held last Wednesday and they included the party president, councilors and senators where Nelson Chamisa is set for a rematch with Zanu PF candidate, President Mnangagwa.
“I am very excited that my favorite candidate, Mayor Maboke got nominated to represent our party as he stands a far much better chance of beating Zanu PF, he is shrewd and hugely popular with the electorate.
“Mayor Maboke is a tried and tested politician and administrator as witnessed by the many projects he implemented during his term of office as Mayor,” said Egness Tabvuma a socialite from ward 1 Masvingo Urban.
Popular baker, Amos ‘Baba Chocolate’ Chihobvu also expressed confidence that Maboke will be selected to represent CCC as he has a good track record as Mayor.

“Advocate Mureri is level headed and has been representing victims of human rights abuse especially women, so it is good that he be given a chance to lead as he has the qualities,” said Munashe Marondedze of Pangolin, Mucheke.
A Great Zimbabwe University lecturer who preferred anonymity for the sake of his job said both candidates stand a good chance but if CCC is to take the popularity route, Maboke is more popular than Mureri.

“Both candidates can take the seat for CCC because in urban areas the party is hugely popular but between the two Maboke is more popular than Mureri among the youths,” he said.
There were no reports of violence or cheating during the nominations process in Masvingo Urban.
Jacob Nyokanhete is the incumbent MP for Masvingo Urban in the House of Assembly.
