MILLICENT HUNGWE
MASVINGO-Cancer casts a long shadow over many lives in Zimbabwe and around the globe, leaving a trail of devastation in its path as it is incurable.
In response to this life challenge, Edith Care and Therapy (ECT), a local non-governmental organization, has taken bold steps to address the impact of cancer in the community.
Operating in Masvingo Province and registered under the PVO Act, ECT Zimbabwe is dedicated to providing essential cancer awareness and psycho-social support services to those affected by the disease.

Tinashe Chatikobo, the director of ECT, envisions a future where a dedicated cancer center plays a pivotal role in offering crucial services to patients, survivors, and families grappling with the emotional and financial burden of cancer.
He said the “center will not only provide psycho-social support but also implement economic empowerment projects to assist individuals in accessing vital treatments like chemotherapy”.
Chatikobo added that the ECT Zimbabwe will be hosting a fundraising dinner on November 2 to raise funds for securing land to establish this transformative cancer center.
The event aims to bring together individuals and organizations to join forces in the fight against cancer and it will be held at Roman Catholic Church run Bethany House near the Masvingo Agricultural showgrounds.
Chatikobo emphasized that by supporting ECT Zimbabwe, “contributors play a vital role in enhancing the quality of care for cancer patients and their families, as well as advancing cancer treatment and management practices in Zimbabwe”.
October is commemorated worldwide as the breast cancer month and people around the world wear a pink ribbon on the chest.
