MASVINGO- As political parties across the country gear up for the crunch 2023 harmonised elections, new political outfit, Democratic Union of Zimbabwe (DUZ) is not living anything to chance.
DUZ has embarked on a whirlwind tour of the country setting up provincial structures in preparation of taking over the reins of power from the libaetion party, Zanu PF which has ruled the conutry since the end of colonial rule from Britain in 1980.
In Masvingo Province 46 party stalwarts were elected during a meeting that was held at Lees Inn Hotel in Rhodene on February 12 last week on Sunday from all seven administrative districts from the main wing , women’s league and youth league.
From all wings 10 individuals were selected with Prosper Madaema representing Mwenezi, Sihle Ntabeni, Chiredzi and Telson Masiiwa being elected to represent Chivi as provincial chaipersons.
Each wing also comprises of vice chairperson, organising secretary, vice, secretary and vice secretary, spokesperson, security and election secretary as well as district co-odinators.
Speaking to tens of supporters who converged at the upmarket hotel, DUZ president Robert Chapman said registering to vote is a responsibility which each citizen should take up as a way to secure a new Government as he said Zanu PF is full corrupt individuals who are nbot concerned about the people’s plight.
“My first request to all of you here is that you register to vote, after that make sure all your relatives and family members eligible to vote are registered because we desperately yearn for change in this country in order to stop corruption which is killing the country’s future generation.
“Registering to vote is the first step towards change, we can talk all day, have people come out in numbers for rallies, but if we are not registered voters we are not doing anything.
“Registering to vote is our ticket to freedom and change from the current government which has terrorised this country. There is full of corruption and justice is not served for the ordinary people. We are all frustrated and it is all our responsibility to register to vote so that our lives improve,” said Chapman.
He also said that his main agenda is to revamp the informal sector which is the backbone of Zimbabwe’s economy as his government will be guided by three pillars that are prosperity, justice and modernisation.
“During my meetings across the country I have noticed that the most important sector in our economy is the small to medium enterprises where vendors are striving in different areas thereby providing employment and self employment. That sector is the backbone of our economy and needs to be resuscitated and invested on.
“Our currency has no value and is ravaged by inflation which makes life difficult for the ordinary person. But we are here to make sure that all that is brought yo an end by making sure that our currency regains value and our lives improve. There will be better infrastructure, medical facilities and affordable goods and services for every citizen under DUZ Government come August this year when we take over power from Zanu PF which has dismally failed, ” said Chapman.
