A joint operation between the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) and the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has resulted in the arrest of two individuals accused of smuggling 16 cattle from Mozambique into Zimbabwe.
The suspects, Phinias Rombe(40) and Simon Ndlovu, (35) were apprehended on August 17, 2025, in Marega Village, Chipinge.
The acting police spokesperson for Manicaland province, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch.
“The arrest was a result of a tip-off received by the Support Unit India Troop Mabee base. Our officers and ZNA details responded promptly and intercepted the suspects driving the herd of cattle through an undesignated crossing point,” said Chinyoka.
“The seized cattle, valued at approximately US$6,400, are being held as evidence at ZRP Chisumbanje”
“We are committed to protecting our borders and preventing the smuggling of livestock, we urge anyone with information about such activities to come forward and assist us in our investigations,”Chinyoka added.
Police said the two suspects are currently detained at Chisumbanje Police Station and have been charged with smuggling cattle from Mozambique. Investigations are ongoing, and the police are working to identify the owner of the cattle, Denis Sithole, who allegedly hired the suspects to drive the animals across the border.
