MASVINGO-Prominent Chivi politician and land developer Godhati Dunira Hungwe has retained his post as treasurer of the influential Zimbabwe  National  Association  of Housing Co-operatives  (ZINAHCO) through a unanimous vote at the organisation’s annual general meeting.

ZINAHCHO’s AGM was held at one of Dunira’s flagship lodges, Fish Eagle Hotel in Chivi last Saturday on February 18 where the whole country was represented by local chapters of the housing cooperatives.

During the AGM the leadership deliberated on the  co-operate empowerment thrust  that  is  training on information communication  and technology, mobilization towards youth, including, election  of board members  and supervisory committee,  discussion and approval of 2022 work plan.

The management board is comprised of,  Mike Duru from Manicaland who was elected  president deputised by Sunungurai Charaura from Harare while Justine  Munjaranji and Nomatter  Mutuzu from Harare were elected secretary  and vice respectively and Nicholas Mutume as committee  member.

“Of late there has been some circulating  rumours that housing  cooperatives are being  banned as such I want to take this opportunity  to correct  that statement. Housing  cooperatives are still functional and  as the only registered  apex housing cooperatives union in the  whole  country we have the full Government  support.

“On that note, we are having  our International  Day of Cooperatives in July and it will be held in Manicaland  where we have already indicated  to the President that we want him to be our guest of honour.  There will be grants for cooperatives coming out as such we encourage the youths, the disabled, women and everyone  else who have their cooperatives to come through  and register with us,” said Duru.

The broader objectives of the CoopsDay is to increase awareness of cooperatives and promote the movement’s ideas of international solidarity, economic efficiency, equality and world peace.
