MASVINGO-Prominent Chivi politician and land developer Godhati Dunira Hungwe has retained his post as treasurer of the influential Zimbabwe National Association of Housing Co-operatives (ZINAHCO) through a unanimous vote at the organisation’s annual general meeting.
ZINAHCHO’s AGM was held at one of Dunira’s flagship lodges, Fish Eagle Hotel in Chivi last Saturday on February 18 where the whole country was represented by local chapters of the housing cooperatives.
ZINAHCO is the mother body of all housing cooperatives dotted around the country has over 200 primary housing organisations registered under the Cooperatives Societies Act whose aim is the provision of houses to low income earners.
The organistaion is governed by a 11 member board of directors who include the president, vice and treasurer among others.
During the AGM the leadership deliberated on the co-operate empowerment thrust that is training on information communication and technology, mobilization towards youth, including, election of board members and supervisory committee, discussion and approval of 2022 work plan.
The management board is comprised of, Mike Duru from Manicaland who was elected president deputised by Sunungurai Charaura from Harare while Justine Munjaranji and Nomatter Mutuzu from Harare were elected secretary and vice respectively and Nicholas Mutume as committee member.
The supervisory committee include of Pardon Murire as chairperson, Gideon Dzitiro as vice chair, Oppa William as the secretary and Claudius Hungwe as a committee member.
A representative board was also chosen from the disabiled , youth and women’s desks where Simon Hatiyanani, Tafara Zhou and Anesteria Magondo were elected in that order.
Speaking to the Midweek Watch ZINAHCO president Duru dispelled rumours that housing co-operatives have banned in the countryt and said that they are on mobilisation drive in excess of 5000 people as they intend to invite President Mnangagwa during the 101st International Day of Cooperatives to be held on the first Saturday of July.
“Of late there has been some circulating rumours that housing cooperatives are being banned as such I want to take this opportunity to correct that statement. Housing cooperatives are still functional and as the only registered apex housing cooperatives union in the whole country we have the full Government support.
“On that note, we are having our International Day of Cooperatives in July and it will be held in Manicaland where we have already indicated to the President that we want him to be our guest of honour. There will be grants for cooperatives coming out as such we encourage the youths, the disabled, women and everyone else who have their cooperatives to come through and register with us,” said Duru.
The broader objectives of the CoopsDay is to increase awareness of cooperatives and promote the movement’s ideas of international solidarity, economic efficiency, equality and world peace.
The services offered by ZINAHCO include lobbying and advocacy, training, housing finance facility and construction management services.
