MASVINGO CITY-A gruesome discovery was made in Rujeko B, Masvingo City on Monday (3/3/25) at around 10am, when the body of a male infant was found floating in a canal that connects with the sewage pipe.

An eyewitness told The Midweek Watch that the body was trapped by a wire gauze that prevents solid residue from getting into the pipe at the sewage works located about a kilometer from Rujeko houses.

“A council employee who was on duty discovered the body as he was carrying out his work and alerted us about the gruesome discovery.

“We quickly went to the scene and found that the infant’s body which was relatively fresh and the worker put it in a tin with water to preserve it.

“I then went to the police to make a report and the police came to collect the body at around 4pm to the hospital as per their procedure.

“This is unacceptable in our society for one to dump a babe in a sewage pipe when other people are failing to conceive without success, my prayer is that the culprit be apprehended and face the full wrath of the law,” said an angry Nesta Munyuki aka Gogo Dozen who stays in Rovambira Street near the scene in Rujeko B.

Masvingo City Ward 10 Councillor, Sengerai Manyanga also confirmed the incident.

“Yes, I can confirm that a body of an infant was found dumped in Rujeko B this morning. The matter has been reported to the police, and we are waiting for them to collect the body and commence investigations,” said Manyanga.

As this publication was indebted with calls from residence about the incident, we phoned the Masvingo Province police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa whose mobile number was not being picked.

A senior officer at Masvingo Central was informed and the body was then collected.
