HARARE – The newly appointed Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Electoral Committee member, prominent lawyer Brian Dube, has pledged to serve in the position with integrity and dedication.

Brian Dube.

Dube, who has a long-standing reputation as a respected legal practitioner, has been a member of the ZIFA Central Region Disciplinary Committee for over 10 years, responsible for conducting hearings for players and club officials.

Speaking in an interview with The Midweek Watch, the former Gweru Urban legislator said he is proud to be part of nation-building through football.

He described sports as a “family sport” that requires discipline and transparency, as it can serve as a tool for national peace and reconciliation.

Dube emphasized the need for accountability in soccer to attract corporate sponsorship.

“We need new investors in soccer as it is a big business, but sponsors are attracted by the association if there are people of integrity running the sport,” he said, adding that the country needs to build more stadiums and promote grassroots sport by funding primary and secondary school competitions.

In a letter addressed to Dube, ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi expressed the association’s pleasure in appointing Dube to the committee, citing his “expertise, dedication, and contributions to the development of football in Zimbabwe.”

As a member of the Electoral Committee, Dube’s key responsibilities will include organizing and supervising the electoral process, ensuring adherence to ZIFA’s statutes, regulations, and electoral code.

He will also be tasked with overseeing the committee’s strategic objectives within its mandate.

Dube’s appointment is for a period of 4 years, subject to renewal or review.

Magwizi expressed the association’s eagerness to benefit from his “valuable contributions to the Electoral Committee and the continued growth of football in Zimbabwe.”
