RIVERSIDE ODZI–A  69-year-old man from Riverside farm, under Chief Marange was found dead, floating in Odzi River on the morning of October 11.

Police Manicaland Provincial Acting Spokesperson Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka told The Midweek Watch that the deceased, Panganai Hapanamambo (69), had left home earlier, drunk and informed his nephew Moris Tazvivinga (18) that he was going to collect tomatoes at Mawone Village under Chief Zimunya.

It was not unusual for Hapanamambo to stay away from home overnight, so when he failed to return, his relatives didn’t initially worry.

However, as concern grew, Tazvivinga attempted to trace him on October 10.

The following morning Tapuwanashe Chikwukwa, a fellow villager, discovered Hapanamambo’s lifeless body along the Odzi River bank.

He quickly alerted the family and surrounding community.

ZRP Odzi attended the scene and confirmed the unfortunate incident. The body was later transferred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.

Police have urged members of the public to avoid traveling alone while intoxicated, especially near water bodies.
