Mutare based gospel sensation Dorcas Moyo officially launched her highly anticipated tenth album, ‘Mugeri Tsvatu’ that featured legends Leonard Karikoga Zhakata, Hosiah Chipanga and Alick Macheso at the Mutare showgrounds, last Saturday.

The album full of potential sold for US$5 500.00 during the launch.
It features an electric mix of musical styles, from Sungura to Rhumba and has already garnered significant attention to its thought-provoking themes and rich melodies.
‘Mugeri Tsvatu’ drawn from the biblical story in 2 Samuel 10, explores themes of dignity and the complexities of human relations.
The title refers to an incident where David’s envoys faced public humiliation, a narrative that resonates deeply in both biblical and contemporary contexts.
The album consists of ten tracks, alongside a bonus track, with titles such as ‘Kazevezeve’, ‘Denga Rina Mwari’, featuring Mbeu and ‘Mubatsiri wangu’ featuring Murigo. The album promises a diverse musical experience, further enriched by collaborations with various artists.
The launch event was a vibrant celebration of Zimbabwean music, featuring legends such as Zhakata, Chipanga and Alick Macheso, who all delivered mesmerizing performances.
Zhakata, known for his timeless hits took fans on a nolstagic journey with classics like ‘Batai Mazwi’ and ‘Mugove’ leaving the audienceclamoring for more. Zhakata donned a unique stage outfit that added flair to his performance.
Macheso, the revered Sungura king, showcased his exceptional talent on bass guitar during the event, further elevating the atmosphere.
The highlight of the evening was a duet between Macheso and Moyo during “Mhanza Haisekwi’ which had the crowd on their feet. Mutare’s own Chipanga delighted fans with his distinctive ‘Secretary Bird’ dance moves, while Mai Charamba invigorated the audience with her hits like ‘Ndiri Munana’ and ‘Musimboti’.
Moyo herself took to the stage with palpable excitement, performing three tracks from her new album, including the title song ‘Mugeri Tsvatu’.
Her powerful vocals and engaging stage presence resonated with fans, reaffirming her status as one of Zimbabwe’s leading gospel artists. Peter Madondo, Moyo’s manager expressed profound gratitude towards the supporters who attended the event.
“The thousands who thronged Manicaland showgrounds stand as a firm testimony that our art is being appreciated across the country,” he said.
He further acknowledged the overwhelming support from the corporate world, fellow artists and the general populace.
“We feel hugely indebted to continue unleashing good and palatable pieces of art to our people”.
The launch not only celebrated Moyo’s artistic journey but also highlighted the resilience and dynamism of Zimbabwean music culture. Despite the challenges posed by the evolving music industry, the event was a testament to the power of music to bring people together and inspire change.
