Don’t attract robbers, bank money-ZRP warns schools

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has urged schools to deposit school fees and tuition related costs at financial institutions, as they open tomorrow 9 September for the 2025 third term to avoid attracting robbers.

In a press statement in possession of The Midweek Watch, ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the precautionary measures will help minimise the risk of robbery and theft as large sums of cash at school premises attract criminal attention.

The warning comes on the backdrop of armed robbers pouncing on individuals who keep large sums of money at home and several schools being attacked by thieves who have gone away with large sums of school fees from safes at the learning institutions.

Parents and school authorities are urged to ensure that learners do not travel at night as this exposes them to risks.

Comm Nyathi also warned transport operators to have road worth vehicles in order to reduce mechanical fault related accidents as schools open.

He also said transporters must stop overloading their buses as they risk the lives of learners.
