Mvuma-Dinson Iron and Steel Company (DISCO) says it is working towards securing a special economic zone (SEZ) license for its Manhize operations in Chivhu.
Speaking during an interview with The Midweek Watch, DISCO public relations manager, Joseph Shoko said, all was in process to get the SEZ license.
He indicated that an application was being processed through the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA).
“We are happy with the progress made so far at Dinson considering that our operations have started. So we are working towards securing a special economic zone licence.
“Once the processing is done, we expect to get the certificate very soon.
“We are very happy that the process is coming to an end and soon we will have the certificate,” Shoko said.
Shoko added that, the first phase to start production at the multi billion plant has been completed and commissioning will be done soon.
“We are happy, Manhize is a range of mountains with rich iron ore deposits of good grades. So, in terms of construction, we are nearing our phase one completion as our blast furnace is already done.
“We are now producing pig irons and billets and we are even getting the steel raws from the billets, it’s a major achievement,” he added.
Dinson is a unit of Tsingshan Group, the world’s largest producer of stainless steel.
“Tsingshan Group controls the complete production chain including nickel-chromium alloy smelting, battery material production, battery cell manufacturing, battery pack assembly and supply of energy storage systems to global markets.
The establishment of the company has also provided job opportunities for the youths as the company is expected to provide employment to over 1000 people.
