MASVINGO-A newly born baby girl has been found in a blocked drainage pipe at the famous boxer, Chinhamo Emmanuel Nyika’s house.

The shocking incident happened along Dambiro Street near Sisk Shopping Centre in Mucheke yesterday in the morning as Masvingo City Council workers were working on a blocked sewer pipe.

“It is true the incident happened at my house after we had reported a blocked sewer pipe at my house. I phoned Council to come and attend to a blocked sewer pipe at my house as waste was already flowing into the house.

“As they were tracing the cause of blockage, they discovered that there was a dead infant in the drainage pipe.

“It was a painful experience and I am still finding it very difficult to believe that one could dump such an innocent soul into a drainage pipe,” said Nyika when contacted by The Midweek Watch.

Masvingo Province Police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa also confirmed the incident which has been the talk of the community since yesterday.

“A Council employee who was cleaning drains found a dumbed body of an infant with an umbilical cord, in one of the drains along Dambiro Street, Mucheke, Masvingo.

“The name of the employee is Johannes Maruke of Runyararo West, Masvingo,” said Insp Dhewa.

Angeline Sozinyu who runs a bar at Sisk Business Center said such behavior is uncalled for and worse still when  Christians are commemorating the death and resurrection of their King.

“This is unacceptable, how can one end an innocent life like that, I hope the culprit will be apprehended soon and justice is done,” she said.
