REDCLIFF-A Redcliff family was left counting its losses after suspected thieves broke into their home and made off with a vehicle, cash and valuables in a daring daylight burglary, police have confirmed.
Midlands province police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko (pictured) said the incident occurred on Wednesday around 5pm at Amethyst Heights in Redcliff.
Mahoko said the complainant, Tawanda Godfrey Magure (46), had left his home earlier for work, leaving his red Peugeot 208, registration number AGY 1389, parked in an unlocked garage.
When he returned later that evening, he discovered that his vehicle had vanished.
“Police attended the scene and observed that the main door to the complainant’s house had been forced open. The suspects gained entry into the house where car keys, US$1 800 cash and other belongings kept in a wardrobe were stolen,” said Mahoko.
He said the total value of property stolen is estimated at US$9 920.
Police have since launched investigations and are appealing for information that could lead to the recovery of the stolen vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.
“We are appealing to members of the public who may have information that could assist in the recovery of the motor vehicle and the arrest of the suspects to report at any nearest police station,” said Mahoko.
He also urged residents to avoid keeping large sums of money at home and instead secure their cash in banking institutions to reduce the risk of theft.
