MUTARE-A Dangamvura man has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for three counts theft of three motor vehicles he stole in Mozambique for resale in Mutare.
Dickson Nyamura was convicted after a full trial where in his defence he alleged that he was given the cars by his uncle who is a resident in Mozambique, for resale in Zimbabwe.
Provincial Magistrate Poterai Gwezhira suspended three years on condition of good behavior thus he will effectively be a guest at the prison for the next seven years.
It was the State’s case led by Joice Tinarwo that Dickson Nyamura (32) on the 29th of November 2025 and at De Setembro Manica, Mozambique took a motor vehicle namely a red Honda Fit with Mozambican registration number ACU 308MC, belonging to Loide Bernardo Tomas.
“Nyamura used a duplicate key and drove the car into Zimbabwe through Burma Valley illegal crossing point. Tomas discovered the offence and made a police report in Mozambique and also advised detectives from CID Mutare. Investigations were made, leading to the arrest of Nyamura and the recovery of the stolen motor vehicle,” alleged Tinarwo.
Tomas was invited to the police station where he positively identified his motor vehicle through the registration numbers which are displayed on the view mirrors and also through the motor vehicle’s chassis numbers. Total value stolen was $2000 and all was recovered.
On count two, it is alleged that on 16th of December 2025, during the night, Nyamura approached a Toyota Hiace (AIU-234-MC) belonging to Saramao Guidione Patricio Uache (45), which was parked beside the road. He used the motor vehicle keys which were left on the ignition to start the motor vehicle and drove off. He drove into Zimbabwe again through the Burma Valley illegal crossing point.
Investigations were made leading to the arrest of Nyamura and the recovery of the stolen motor vehicle at house number 5271 Area 3 Dangamvura, Mutare where Nyamura had parked it.
Uache was invited at the police station where he positively identified his motor vehicle.
Total value of the stolen motor vehicle is $4000 and nothing was recovered.
On the third count Margarida Paulo Sarapia (57) of 04 Congresso Manica, Mozambique had his Honda Fit (ADI-559-MC) stolen by Nyamura.
“On 30th November 2025 Sarapia’s motor vehicle was approached by Nyamura where she had parked it. He used duplicate keys and drove off. He drove off using his usual escape route into Zimbabwe. As soon as he was in Zimbabwe, he sold the motor vehicle to Joseph Takunda Muzimba of house number 4926 Area 3 Dangamvura, Mutare, prosecuted Tinarwo.
Investigations were made leading to the arrest of Nyamura and the recovery of the stolen motor vehicle. Sarapia was invited to the police station where she positively identified her motor vehicle through its chassis number and the registration number which are displayed on the vehicle’s view mirrors
Total value stolen was $3500 and all was recovered.
