KWEKWE-Kwekwe residents breathed a sigh of relief when they learnt that armed robbers who pounced on Doves Funeral Parlour did not temper with bodies stored there awaiting burial.

Doves Funeral.

Armed with iron bars and axes, a five man gang broke into the Doves funeral parlour on Friday morning, according to Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

“They jumped over the precast wall and confronted two security guards and three employees who were on duty,” Insp Mahoko said. “The suspects assaulted the victims, tied their hands and legs, and demanded to know where cash was kept.”

The robbers reportedly stole three mobile phones a Huawei Y9, a G-Tel Delta, and a Samsung A06 all valued US$410, before fleeing the scene.

Insp Mahoko said the police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are appealing to the public for information that could lead to their arrest.

“We urge anyone with information to approach the nearest police station,” Insp Mahoko added.

The robbery has left many Kwekwe residents alarmed, as cases of armed attacks targeting businesses continue to rise across the Midlands mining town.
