…zebra crossings for all schools

MASVINGO CITY-The commissioning of the much awaited environmentally friendly Cambria Farm landfill dumpsite which is set to improve waste management for Masvingo City has been penciled for the end of this month.
The landfill at Cambria Farm will result in the decommissioning of the old dumpsite in Mucheke West which has become a health hazard for the residents in the surrounding areas including Victoria Ranch.
In a statement MCC public relations manager, Ashleigh Jinjika thanked the residents for their patience and cooperation during the construction of the landfill and said the commissioning will be done in two weeks.
“The City of Masvingo would like to notify residents and ratepayers that Cambria landfill is set to be commissioned for use in two weeks time. Commissioning of the landfill will be followed by decommissioning of the old dumpsite in Mucheke. Opening of the landfill will ensure improved solid waste management in the city.
“Council would like to thank the residents for their cooperation and patience during the construction of an engineered landfill.
“As City of Masvingo we endeavour to provide scientific disposal of refuse,” Jinjika said.
Meanwhile, Jinjika added that they have embarked on a programme to draw zebra crossings in line with Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) road signs protocols at all schools in the ancient for the safety of the children beginning with Victoria Junior School.
“A Zebra Crossing has been made for pupils outside of the main gate of Victoria Junior School to create safety.
“The target is to have the pedestrian markings at all schools in the City within 10 days,” said Jinjika.
