GWERU-Police in the Midlands province have launched a manhunt for a Gweru man who allegedly murdered his wife following accusations of infidelity in a gruesome attack that shocked residents of Village Chinyama under Chief Gambiza.
The Midlands Provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident to The Midweek Watch, which occurred on Saturday around 11PM, saying the suspect, Brighton Kahlanga (31), allegedly fatally assaulted his wife, Patience Madula (26), after accusing her of cheating.
“Circumstances are that the couple had a misunderstanding at their home, and the suspect began assaulting his wife in the presence of his mother,” said Insp Mahoko. “The mother fled from the scene and sought refuge at a neighbour’s homestead.”
Moments later, Kahlanga reportedly phoned his brother-in-law, informing him that his wife was having an affair and that he intended to kill her before taking his own life.
The police heard that the brother-in-law hurried to the scene, only to find Madula lying unconscious in a pool of blood, with deep cuts all over her body.
Kahlanga had reportedly fled the homestead by the time police were notified.
Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of Kahlanga, to report to the nearest police station.
“We also urge citizens to solve disputes amicably and to value human life,” added Insp Mahoko.
The latest incident adds to a worrying trend of domestic violence-related murders that continue to claim lives across the country.
