A 53-year-old artist from Nemauzhe village, Chivi Central constituency has made a passionate plea to music promoters to financially assist him and prevent his artistic work from sinking into oblivion.
Dreadlocked, Edward Machingambi a.k.a Ganja T said his growth in the music industry is inhibited by the lack of enough resources and access to recording studios.
He appealed for sponsorship to enable his music to blossom.
“I am appealing for sponsorship from music promoters to enable me to record my music and acquire musical instruments.
“Lack of access to the studios, radio stations and unavailability of sponsorship is negatively contributing to the stunted growth of my music,” said Ganja T.
Despite all the setbacks in his musical journey, Ganja T is unrelenting in pursuing his dreams in showbiz.
“I do not easily give up whenever I face a difficult situation. I would rather write a song pertaining to a hard situation I might be facing,” he said.
Machingambi started his musical journey in the late 1980s in Masvingo working with the now defunct Dindingwe Band.
He moved to Harare in 1993 where he had a stint with the Chikokoko musical outfit.
In 1994, he took a short break from the music industry and resurfaced in early 1995 working with Tapson Mudimu until the end of 1995.
Fast forward to 2010, Ganja T relocated to Mozambique, Gaza province where he recorded two reggae songs, Mandela and Unity.
Machingambi said his songs were well-received in Mozambique and got air time on that country’s radio stations.
Ganja T is a multi-talented artist, he sings lead and back vocals, plays rhythm and bass guitar, is a football commentator and comedian.
