MILLICENT HUNGWE
A 22-year-old woman from Chivi was arrested in dramatic fashion after police set up a clever ambush at her homestead, following reports that she was selling mbanje to mine workers.
ZRP Masvingo Province Spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa told The Midweek Watch that the accused, Caroline Jikita of Village Munyangari under Headman Gororo, was reportedly running a brisk drug business underground trade from her yard.
Police at Ngundu, received a tip-off around 0730hrs on September 22 that Jikita was allegedly supplying dagga to workers from nearby mines.
Acting swiftly, officers teamed up with the ZRP Canine Section and proceeded to her homestead, where they quietly laid a trap.
From their vantage point, police watched as mine workers approached Jikita’s home, not through the gate, but over the fence, handing over cash in exchange for small plastic sachets.
To confirm their suspicions, officers sent in one of them as a decoy buyer.
The trap worked.
Moments later, the rest of the officers swooped in and conducted a thorough search.
What they uncovered shocked even seasoned investigators, a secret stash buried underground.
A total of 277 sachets of dagga were exhumed from underground.
The recovered drugs were valued at US$277.
Jikita was immediately arrested and has since appeared in court.
