Chivi man (23) steals $1.2million phones from Lundi High

MASVINGO-A Chivi man has been slapped with 8 years behind bars after being found by Police CID crack squad in possession of cellphones worth $1 255 250-00 stolen from Lundi Christian High School and surrounding villages.

Brian Rumbweka (23) of Mashakadze Village under Chief Madzivire in Chivi was found in possession of 15 cellphones stolen from Lundi High and surrounding villages and was slapped with 8 years imprisonment with 2 years suspended asa first offender today by Magistrate Gift Manyika.

Langton Katsidzira prosecuted.

It was the State case that Rumbweka, “on the 1st day of February 2023 a report of unlawful entry into premises was received at ZRP Lundi Base Mwenezi to the effect that accused person proceeded to Lundi Christian High School and entered into one of the complainants’ room through the open window and took two complainants’ cellphones Nokia C3 and Huawei Honor and went away. CID Detectives attended the scene and followed the footprints up to the accused person’s homestead. The accused person was arrested and found in possession of the two stolen cellphones.

“CID Mwenezi Detectives interviewed the accused person and established that the accused person had stolen other cellphones on different occasions and he sold them to different people around Ngundu and Mwenezi policing areas.

“The accused person led the Detectives to several scenes where he unlawfully gained entry and stole complainants’ properties. The accused person also led the team in recovering the stolen  cellphones.

A total of 15 cellphones where recovered

Total value of cellphones recovered was ZWL$1 255 250”.
