SYDNEY MUBAIWA
CHIVI- A Chivi man accused of killing his girlfriend by striking her with a wheel spanner two weeks ago was yesterday remanded in custody to March 28, 2025 by Resident Magistrate.
According to court proceedings, it is alleged that Tapiwa Mabhiza (47) on 11 February, 2025 asked her now deceased girlfriend Vongai Matonhodze to drive out in his Toyota Fun-cargo.
Upon reaching the 28 km peg along the Tokwe-Mhandamabwe road, the vehicle veered off the road and got stuck in the mud on the road side.
Vongai disembarked from the vehicle and started walking away towards Chivi Growth Point shouting that the accused wanted to kill her.
Mabhiza followed and caught up with her about 50 meters away from the vehicle and upon arrival, he withdrew a wheel spanner which he used to hit his girlfriend once on the head over an undisclosed issue.
Vongai suffered a deep cut on the head and fell to the ground. Upon noticing that his girlfriend was dead, Mabhiza fled away from the scene towards Nyaningwe mountain where he was subsequently arrested.
