MILLICENT HUNGWE
The Chivhu–Gutu road continues to undergo a major transformation, with 10km of the planned 20km reseal already completed, marking a 50% progress milestone.

The road is set for completion by end of the according to the road authorities who spoke to The Midweek Watch.
The ongoing works are part of a broader commitment to improve road infrastructure and ensure safer, more durable passage for motorists and communities along this vital route.
Masvingo Provincial Roads Engineer Augustine Chigwereve confirmed the milestone progress, stating, “We are making steady progress, the plan is to complete the full 20km this year kilometre by kilometre.”
The resealing project is a key part of ongoing efforts to preserve and enhance the lifespan of this important route.
The Midweek Watch confirmed that a road reseal, also known as asphalt or bitumen reseal, is a maintenance technique that involves spraying a layer of bitumen or asphalt emulsion over the current road surface, followed by a layer of small aggregate (gravel or stones).
“This process serves several critical functions, sealing cracks to prevent water from seeping in and damaging the road base, protecting the surface from daily wear and tear, improving safety through better traction, enhancing appearance and usability,” he explained.
Engineer Chigwereve highlighted that resealing is a cost-effective maintenance solution that delays the need for full-scale road reconstruction, saving both time and resources.
As the work progresses, road users and communities along the Chivhu–Gutu corridor can expect smoother, safer, and long-lasting infrastructure, reinforcing the government’s commitment to accessible and sustainable road networks.
