CHIKOMBA–Four died in Chivhu on Saturday last week when a Scania Rigid they were travelling veered off the road and landed on its left side when the driver lost visibility due to lights failure.
This happened at around 3am on May 20 2023 along Hoffman dust road at the 3km peg when the Scania’s lights switched off unexpectedly affecting the driver’s vison leading to the vehicle veering off the road landing on its side and killing the occupants.
National Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident to The Midweek Watch and appealed to motorist to have their vehicles serviced to avoid technical problem when on the road.
Nyathi said Nulama Witman was driving a Scania Rigid with 30 people on board en route to Zaka Jerera along Hoffman Street towards Gutu road when his vehicle abruptly switched off the head lights resulting in the vehicle landing on its side due to lack of visibility.
Passengers were then ferried to Chivhu General Hospital and four died upon arrival while the other 9 who suffered serious injuries are currently admitted at the same hospital.
“I can confirm that there was a fatal accident on the 20th May of 2023 where four people have been reported dead in Chivhu after the vehicle they were travelling in veered of the road after switching off the lights,” said Nyathi.
