The philanthropic works of Wicknell Chivayo need to be applauded as they resonate with the envisaged vision 2030 as enunciated by His Excellency President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.

Rewarding exceptional talent in our nation is not only motivational but also inspirational especially to the young generation.

As of late, it is Alick Macheso who has caught Chivhayo’s eye. For his illustrious contribution to the music industry, the Mai Varubi hit maker was gifted a Mercedes Benz worth $140 000.

Macheso joins a cluster of other car beneficiaries who include Sandra Ndebele, Jah Prayzah, Sulumani Chimbetu , Mathias Mhere and Seh Calaz.

Not to hide his appreciation and joy upon receiving the car keys, Macheso affectionally known by his legion of fans as Baba Sharo, turned the car arena into a stage, as he showcased his dancing skills .

Wicknell Chivhayo’s generosity has to be construed in the context of a life support system to the arts industry which has been finding it hard to come back to normalcy after the ravaging effects of COVID-19.

The arts industry remains a vital cog in the transformation of the nation into an upper middle income economy through employment creation and dissemination of information.

A vibrant arts industry is a key instrument in fighting ills of the society such as drug and substance abuse. It is in this vein that Wicknell’s hand which is breathing life to the arts industry and also lubricating the industry so that it lives to its call of upholding the moral fabric of the society is laudable.

Against this background, rewarding excellence in arts becomes a virtue which is not only commendable but should be cultural, given the significant role the industry performs in the society.

More so, Wicknell’s generosity serves as a wakeup call to all the stakeholders in the arts industry to spare a thought on the welfare of our heroes and heroines of edutainment, whom we should celebrate and reward during their days on earth and not to wait for their demise in order to honour them .
