Gutu Central Constituency was abuzz with excitement last week as hundreds of villagers converged at Jaravaza Primary School to receive environmentally friendly tsotso stoves under an initiative spearheaded by MP and Mines Minister Winston Chitando.

The program, which saw 365 households benefit, is part of a bold move to upgrade communities while preserving the environment by reducing the indiscriminate cutting of trees.
The initiative is being rolled out in partnership with My Trees Trust, an organization committed to sustainable environmental management, led by Perfect Mbwana. Addressing the gathering, Mbwana emphasized, “Trees are a source of life; we must unite as a community to protect and preserve them because we are the custodians of our environment.”
Constituency coordinator, Bare echoed similar sentiments, urging villagers to become environmental ambassadors. He advised recipients to strictly follow stove usage instructions to ensure durability.
Villagers expressed deep gratitude to Minister Chitando and President Mnangagwa for prioritizing grassroots development. “We thank the President for giving us leaders like Hon. Chitando who never forget their people,” said Monica Randazha a Gutu Central resident.
Another villager, Sarudzai Masunda, noted that many indigenous trees faced extinction, adding that the initiative would help reverse this trend.
Young resident Brighton Taengerwei hailed the program as aligned with the Presidential Vision for a clean environment by 2030, describing Chitando as “a man of his word.”
As the distribution continues across Gutu Central, My Trees Trust confirmed that monitoring and evaluation will follow to ensure compliance. With community support and leadership commitment, this green revolution promises to transform both livelihoods and landscapes in Gutu.
