CHIKOMBA—Collen Zvarevashe, who is popular for keeping the Chikomba Council on its tore for demanding service delivery for the residents of Chivhu has resigned as Chivhu Residents and Ratepayers Alliance chairman as he has joined the race to become ward 11 councillor.

This follows Zvarevashe’s successful nomination as one of the candidates by the Citizen Coalition for Change last week on Wednesday.

Zvarevashe has been vocal in the transit town for years taking to task the local authority for lack of service delivery as well as leading demonstrations against the Council administration for alleged abuse of office.

However, Zvarevashe will have to outfox veteran opposition politician and former ward 11 councilor Edwin Maseva, seasoned opposition activist Juliget Jongwe and Chivhu businessman Hopeday Madzura. The opposition is also looking at party experience in vetting nominated candidates which may also work against Zvarevashe as he may be regarded as a new comer into opposition politics

In a notice seen by The Midweek Watch, Zvarevashe said he decided to step down from the position after he was nominated amongst candidates to represent CCC in ward 11 in the forthcoming general elections.

“Having been nominated among other aspiring CCC candidates for ward 11, I am stepping down as CHRRA chairman with immediate effect as per the organization’s constitution.

“I just decided to fully participate in this revolution of economic independence of our communities,” said Zvarevashe.

CHIRRA secretary, General David Marufu said they appreciate Zvarevashe’s contribution to the organisation, its growth and stabilization. He also added that Zvarevashe’s work in Chikomba is there for the people to see for themselves.

“As CHRRA we greatly appreciate his contribution to the initiation, growth and stabilization of the organization.

“Mr. Zvarevashe’s contribution to Chikomba is there for people to judge, bad or good. His joining of the political landscape is his right and choice and we respect that. Though we still wanted him in the residents struggles, we can’t block him in his new endeavor,” said Marufu.
