Chipinge Primary School wrote its own piece of history when its U14 rugby team brought home the national 7s tournament held in Marondera.

The win saw the team having five of their players being selected into the national team that will participate in the regional games to be held in Eswathini next month.

The team’s dedication and passion for the sport have paid off, inspiring their community and proving that even the youngest athletes are capable of achieving greatness.

One of the coaches from Chipinge Primary school Tadiwanashe Dube who spoke to The Midweek Watch expressed gratitude about their team’s dedication to win the prestigious tournament highlighting their commitment and hard working.

“I am very excited about our performance which saw us managing to win the national 7s rugby tournament and I want to thank the almighty who guided us all the way.

“We have been preparing for this tournament for two weeks and I’m very happy to say five of our athletes namely Carlos Matemera, Tatenda Chimuriwo,Hlenga  Anotidaishe, Nathanel Sugauke and Beloved Makuyana were selected to represent the country next month at the regional games to played in Eswathini,” he said.

Apart from having the opportunity to showcase their skills at regional level the boys have been awarded scholarships to study at Churchill and Hillcrest high schools once they reach secondary level.

When contacted for a comment about the growth of the sport in the province, Manicaland Rugby body chairperson Moss Kapumha said they is still more ground to be covered and highlighted that the sport is yet to very competitive at the grassroots level.
