Chipinge man murdered for refusing to share mukozodo

CHIPINGE-A Chipinge (40) was beaten to death by two men for refusing to share illicit beer aka mukozodo, Manicaland Provincial deputy Police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident which happened yesterday at 2am.

Chinyoka also confirmed the arrest of the two accused persons.

Circumstances are that Mathias Gwenzi of Mqabaniso Village under Chief Musikavanhu went to Sterling Business Centre for a beer drink where he bought four bottles of super champ spirits aka mukozodo.

He was then approached by Fortune Makabani (25) and Chida Masamba (31) of the same village. The two wanted to join him but he refused.

Gwenzi left for his home when Makabani and Masamba followed him. They started attacking him using sticks all over the body. They walked for a kilometer assaulting him all over the body until he fell down unconscious.

On realizing that Gwenzi was no longer responding, Makabani and Masamba left him lying near the road.

Ass Inspector Chinyoka said Makabani went back to the scene where they had left Gwenzi. He continued assaulting him with the sticks. Makabani was seen by one John Sithole who was in the company of his wife Gladys Mtetwa. Sithole and Mtetwa tried to stop Makabani from assaulting Gwenzi but he became violent.

Sithole and his wife continued with their journey.

At around 9am, Farai Musengi was on his way to Sterling Business Centre when he saw Gwenzi’s dead body near the road.

Musengi alerted other villagers who were at the business centre .The matter was reported to the police who investigated the matter leading to Makabani and Masimba’s arrest.

Ass Inspector Chinyoka urged the public not to take law into their own hands. He also encouraged members of the public to desist from violence as it may lead to loss of life.
